UNIVERSITAS HASANUDDIN, Indonesia: World Class Professorship Programme

Heikki Hokkanen was invited to participate in the World Class Professorship Program (WCP-B) by the Indonesian Government, in collaboration with Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Makassar, South-Sulawesi, Indonesia. In this scheme, he visited the Hasanuddin University for 21 days, from 14 October 2018 to 4 November 2018. During the visit he together with co-authors finalized the preparation of two manuscripts entitled: “Distribution and population dynamics of mealybugs on cassava in South Sulawesi, Indonesia” and “Bottom-up effects and biocontrol of cassava mealybugs by beneficial fungi”. Authors include: Andi Nasruddin, Ahwiyah E. Said, Ade Rosmana, James Kitson, Ingeborg Menzler-Hokkanen, and Heikki Hokkanen. In addition, more data of mealybug distribution was collected from other parts of the province. During the stay at UNHAS, Heikki also taught as a guest lecturer in a Master’s degree class on Biological and Integrated Pest Control and provide guidance on manuscript writing for publication in high impact international journals to lecturers of the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Faculty of Public Health, UHNAS. Heikki also gave two presentations in two international conferences held at UNHAS..

SOUTHWEST UNIVERSITY, CHONGQING, CHINA

International Talents Introducing Program

Both Heikki Hokkanen and Ingeborg Menzler-Hokkanen were invited in 2018 to participate in the International Cooperation Program of the Southwest University, Chingqing, China: “We are happy to announce that the launch meeting as well as the International Symposium on Biology of Plant Pests will be held in Chongqing of China from August 5th to 9th. Because of your expertise on the biological control and your contribution to the community, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend the launch meeting and the symposium. You are invited to give us a talk on your recent research. We are going to talk about the future collaboration during the meeting.”

During the visit, the program was extended to a similar visit to the Guizhou University, Guiyang, China.

International Immersion Programme

Heikki Hokkanen and Ingeborg Menzler-Hokkanen were invited by the Southwest University, Chongqing, China, to participate in the 1st SWU International Immersion Program: “After careful deliberation of the Academic Committees at both college and university level, the course you proposed, Biological Control, has been assigned to the College of Plant Protection in our university. Thus we would like to officially invite you to conduct classes at SWU during July 8th – 19th, 2019.” The course was held and was considered to have been highly successful, with follow-up activities in teaching, research, and academic publishing.
